The purpose of this research was to investigate effect of water extract of Kun Chil San (KCSE) on the proliferation of human female tumor cells.
The effects of KCSE on the proliferation of human female tumor cells, Balb/c 3T3 cells, mouse spleen cells and human lymphocytes were estimated by MTT colorimetric assay.
KCSE inhibited the proliferation of MCF-7, HeLa and SK-OV3 cells, and stimulated the proliferation of Balb/c 3T3 cells. The cytotoxicity of mitomycin C and adriamycin on HeLa cells were increased by the combination of KCSE. The cytotoxicity of mitomycin C, cisplatin and adriamycin on Balb/c 3T3 cells were increased by the combination of KCSE did not affect the proliferation of mouse spleen cells, but activated the proliferation of human lymphocytes.
KSCE recovered the number of leukocyte which was decreased by MMC.
These results suggest that KCSE inhibit the growth of human female tumor cells without the cytotoxity on fibroblast cells and immune cells, and then increase the cytotoxicity of mitomycin on HeLa cells by the combination of KCSE.
